Introduction

It’s a book to learn data science, machine learning and data analysis
with tons of examples and explanations around several topics like:

  • Exploratory data analysis
  • Data preparation
  • Selecting best variables
  • Model performance

How is it organized?

It's a playbook with full of data preparation receipts, using the open source R language. There are two types of examples, some are oriented to teach general concepts around data analysis (like the information theory concept), while others are intended to show how to transform missing values, choosing the correct data type, and the implications in any case; among others, using easy copy-paste pieces of code. Please note that this is not a book to learn how to program R from scratch, nor how algorithms are implemented (math and stats area).

Can I see a preview?

Sure, as always, you can find the web-version, fully available at: https://livebook.datascienceheroes.com.

It's the same book as the paperback / Kindle version πŸ˜‰.

About the release

Thanks for those who've already supported the project by purchasing a digital copy or read it and shared on social networks.

It is my greatest wish to boost not only the reader's technical skills, but rather to interconnect the things of the world around us, finding common patterns that help us to build an intuition for Data Science. Would that be possible? Well, you might have the answer...

As a self-publisher, I'd be very grateful if you share it with others or you just leave feedback on Amazon πŸ“―πŸ™‚.

This is how the paperback looks like!

Do you want to write?

It's possible! Probably I will make a "how to self-publish a book", there are lots of things to mention. By now I can tell you that 100% of this book was made using open-source tools, mainly the incredible Bookdown package (which uses other packages just like GitBook, Latex, Pandoc, etc).

After some research and tunning, it's possible to self-publish a book on Amazon using only R tools. If you are thinking in writing, these open-source tools can help you a lot! It's really possible to start writing.

Some stats from the book:

  • +350 commits on Github: An open-source book fully available for
anyone on the planet willing to learn. No money barriers.

  • +53k entrances: on the web version
    (https://livebook.datascienceheroes.com)

  • +8k visits on dzone.com / also seen on opendatascience.com

  • +23k downloads: on the 'funModeling' R package (developed
    side-by-side with the book)

  • Mentions, nice comments and shares on social-networks :)
